Currently under construction, this primary bathroom remodel began with a space that felt dark and disconnected despite its generous footprint. Two small north-facing windows limited natural light, poorly placed ventilation created uncomfortable cold spots, and storage fell short of what the room's size should have allowed. The switching was its own daily frustration: some switches powered nothing at all, and the vanity lighting could only be turned off at the vanity itself, meaning a walk through a dark bathroom every night just to get to bed.

The design reorganizes the suite around light, comfort, and the surrounding mountain view. An oversized new window opens the room to the landscape and allows natural light to filter through the central steam shower, made possible by the home's elevated site and privacy from neighboring properties. When the steam is running, the glass reads from outside as a softly glowing, frosted cube, turning a functional window into its own subtle architectural moment. Custom vanities accommodate an existing return-air vent concealed within the cabinetry, while relocated overhead ventilation, layered lighting, and intuitive lighting controls improve the experience of the room throughout the day. Upward-facing cove lighting adds an ethereal glow and makes the ceilings feel even higher, while warm wood, honed marble stone, and restrained black details create a quiet material palette. Cabinetry with traditional detailing pairs effortlessly with the architectural steam shower and clean lines, a nod to the home's strong mid-century bones that lets the design feel intentional, built to last decades rather than trend with the moment.
